Name
Treasure Dive
Core Skill
This game focuses on building confidence and improving underwater swimming skills.
Who
Suitable for Level 1 and Level 2 swimmers who are comfortable submerging their heads underwater.
What
Participants will need a few small waterproof toys or objects to serve as “treasures.” These can be placed at the bottom of the pool.
How
- Setup: Scatter the “treasures” at the bottom of the pool.
- Instructions: Swimmers take turns diving down to retrieve a treasure and bringing it back to the surface.
- Rules: Swimmers must hold their breath and swim underwater to retrieve the treasure. They can use a gentle kick to help them move but should not use their hands to push off the bottom.
- Objective: The goal is to collect as many treasures as possible within a set time limit.
BONUS
To increase difficulty:
- Increase the depth at which treasures are placed.
- Add more obstacles, such as floating rings or hoops that swimmers must swim through to reach the treasures.
- Ask swimmers to perform a specific underwater skill, like swimming a short distance on their back, before retrieving the treasure.
SUPER BONUS
For an extra challenge, have swimmers perform a quick underwater somersault before surfacing with the treasure.
Difficulties Instructors Might Face
- Ensuring Safety: Constant supervision is required to ensure swimmers do not hold their breath for too long or panic underwater.
- Maintaining Focus: Keeping swimmers engaged and motivated, especially if they struggle with underwater skills.
- Equipment Management: Ensuring there are enough treasures and that they are evenly distributed.
This game is not only fun but also helps swimmers build essential underwater skills in a playful and engaging way. ?♀️
