Swimming Game – Big Bad Wolf

Name

Big Bad Wolf

One-Liner

While floating on a noodle or life jacket, use your breath to blow a ping pong ball from one bench to the other.

Core Skill

This game focuses on breath control and coordination, essential for developing swimming skills in young learners.

Who

Suitable for Parent Tot, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3

What

Participants will need foam noodles and Ping-pong balls. Each swimmer uses a foam noodle to support their body while they blow the Ping-Pong ball across the water to a designated spot.

How

  1. Setup: Spread out the foam noodles and Ping-Pong balls, ensuring each participant has one of each.
  2. Positioning: Swimmers lay on their stomachs or backs, supported by the foam noodle.
  3. Objective: Using only their breath, participants must blow the Ping-Pong ball from one end of the pool to a designated spot.
  4. Rules: No hands or feet allowed to move the ball—just the power of their breath. The first to reach the destination wins!

BONUS

To increase the difficulty, you can:

  1. Extend the distance the Ping-Pong ball must travel.
  2. Add floating obstacles that participants need to navigate around.
  3. Time each attempt and try to beat previous records.

SUPER BONUS

For an extra challenge, have participants blow the ball while maintaining a specific swimming position (like a streamlined glide) or perform a simple trick (like a small circle) before continuing.

Difficulties Instructors Might Face

  1. Maintaining Breath Control: Young swimmers might struggle with blowing the ball consistently. Offer demonstrations and practice sessions.
  2. Keeping Focus: Excited children may find it hard to concentrate solely on blowing the ball. Gentle reminders and encouragement are key.
  3. Preventing Ball Interference: Ping-Pong balls are light and can be easily moved by water currents or other participants’ actions. Ensure adequate space between swimmers.
  4. Safety Concerns: Constant supervision is necessary to ensure that swimmers remain safe, especially those who might have difficulty with breath control.

This game is not only a fun way to engage swimmers but also helps them develop essential skills in a playful, engaging manner. 🌬️🏊‍♂️
